Sex offender arrested at school in Mt. Juliet

A sex offender is in custody after police said he was caught Tuesday afternoon at a school in Wilson County.

The suspect, Kenneth Thomas of Nashville, is required to wear a GPS device on his ankle after he was convicted of a violent rape in 2003.

Thomas is not allowed to be around children or the property of any school.

But police said Thomas's GPS tracker showed he was walking around West Wilson Middle School in Mount Juliet.

Police said they verified there were children on the campus while Thomas was there, and authorities couldn't reach him by phone.

Officers arrived at the school and took him into custody.

He is now facing two charges for violating the requirements of the state's sex offender registry and his community supervision.

Thomas is being held at the Metro Jail on $10,000 bond. The police reports do not indicate why he was on the school's campus.
