(RNN) - The first storm of the 2013 hurricane season continued its path northward along the East Coast on Friday, still moving at 45 mph a day after making landfall near the Big Bend of Florida.
As of the 11 p.m. EST advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Andrea was located 30 miles south of Cape May, NJ, moving northeast at 35 mph.
The storm's 45 mph winds make it still a weak tropical storm.
As it marches up the east coast, it's expected to bring two to four inches of rain into coastal Maine.
The storm is forecast to move through Canada late Saturday into Sunday with little change predicted in its wind speed.
Rain from Tropical Storm Andrea has already caused flooding in the Carolinas. As much as 2 feet of flooding could be seen Friday in North Carolina and extreme southeastern Virginia, according to the NWS.
The NWS also stated tornadoes were possible over eastern portions of North Carolina and Virginia. Tropical storm conditions were expected to last in the warning areas until 11 p.m.
Parts of eastern Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina were expected to receive three to six inches of rain with isolated areas seeing up to eight inches of rain.
WCSC in Charleston reported heavy rainfall moved over downtown Charleston inland late Thursday, and flooding of low-lying areas downtown is expected Friday.
Tornado warnings were issued for Beaufort and Colleton counties in South Carolina - with damage noted in Colleton County - late Thursday and Pender County, NC, early Friday morning.
In North Carolina, flooding was reported in the early morning hours of Friday in New Hanover County, according to WECT.
The National Weather Service received reports of flooding in Southport, NC.
In South Carolina, SCE&G said that the tropical storm has caused about 2,800 customers to lose power, WCSC reported Friday morning. In addition, a downed power line in James Island, SC, sparked a fire Friday morning.
Schools in parts of south Georgia closed Thursday, and many in the Carolinas were closed Friday as the storm moved north.
An unconfirmed tornado touched down in the Loxahatchee area of Palm Beach County, FL, Thursday morning, causing substantial damage, according to WFLX.
CNN reported a tornado also touched down Thursday morning in Clearwater, FL, causing minor damage.
NASA's TRMM satellite passed over Andrea after it was named and measured 5 inches of rainfall per hour in the southern part of the storm.
The storm moved inland after making landfall Thursday along the Big Bend of Florida, unleashing rain and the threat of tornadoes.
The 2012 Atlantic Hurricane Season produced a total of 19 tropical cyclones.
Hurricane Isaac is blamed for 34 hurricane related deaths last season – 24 in Haiti, five in the Dominican Republic and five in the United States.
Late in the 2012 season, Hurricane Sandy devastated the New Jersey and New York coastlines - costing nearly $50 billion in damage. There were 147 direct deaths due to Sandy. Seventy-two of those deaths occurred in northeastern U.S. and the Atlantic basin.
