WTC metal to be used in local Freedom Bell

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Metal from the World Trade Center is being used in a local memorial to honor our armed forces.

The Spirit of Liberty Foundation held a ceremony on Thursday for the casting of a new Freedom Bell, honoring our past, present and future armed forces.

The ceremony was held at the Verdin Bell Foundry, located on Kellogg Avenue.

Officials say the clapper inside the bell will be made of metal from the World Trade Center, melted down and re-cast for the project.

National Guard general officers from Ohio and Kentucky were on hand for the ceremony.
