10-year-old's lemonade stand raises funds cancer research

KENNEDY HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

A local 10-year-old is raising money for a good cause as part of National Lemonade Days.

Savoy Lackey hosted her fourth Alex's Lemonade Stand to raise money and awareness for Pediatric Cancer.

Savoy's mother wanted to teach Savoy the importance of community and how she could have a real impact on the lives of others.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation began in 2000 in the front yard of cancer patient Alexandra "Alex" Scott.  Four-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for children with cancer.

Since Alex's first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fundraising movement. Thousands of supporters across the country continue Alex's mission of hope.

The stand will be open again on Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. in the 5800 block of Red Bank Road in Kennedy Heights
