ABAC names new head baseball coach

Jeff Kilgore has been named head baseball coach at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and will also serve as an academic support counselor.

Kilgore is no stranger to the team, serving as interim coach of the Stallions last season after spending two years as an assistant coach.

He led the Stallions on a comeback season in 2013, winning 14 conference games after the team won only six in 2012.

He says losing the interim tag not only solidifies him with his current players, but also boosts the confidence of recruits.

"You have kids who, they see interim, and they wonder if you're going to be here next year, and those questions pop in their head," Kilgore says. "So to have it removed is really nice for recruiting purposes especially."

In his role as an academic support counselor, Kilgore will assist and guide students through all phases of the academic process from acceptance through graduation.

Kilgore's coaching career began at Emmanuel where he was an assistant under Aaron Brister for two years.

From Emmanuel he moved on to West Hall High School for an opportunity to coach alongside Pete Allen, one of his former high school coaches.

His first head coaching job came with the Athens Pirates of the Great South League. He spent two summers coaching top college players from the Eastern seaboard.

In 2004, Kilgore earned his B.S. in Business Administration from Emmanuel before completing his Master of Education degree in Health and Physical Education from North Georgia College and State University.

Kilgore and his wife, Meredith Kilgore, formerly of Carnesville, live in Tifton with their seven-month old son, Boston William.
