CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A man has admitted to killing a security guard at the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel.
Joseph Tucker, 38, admitted in court on Wednesday that he killed Richard Campbell on Dec. 7, 2012, Campbell's 58th birthday.
Tucker pleaded guilty to murder and in exchange had charges of burglary, robbery and aggravated murder dropped. He was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
Prosecutors say Campbell confronted Tucker for being in an area of the hotel that he wasn't supposed to be in. Tucker then pulled a knife and stabbed the man to death.
Campbell was found in an emergency stairwell. Tucker says he was drunk and high on drugs when the murder occurred, but told the judge he "partially" remembered what he did.
"I apologize to the family and the community. It was a tragic mistake," said Tucker.
Tucker was arrested a week after the murder after surveillance video was released. Prosecutors say they found Tucker's DNA on a ring that Campbell was wearing.
"Everyone who came in contact with him, you couldn't help but love him," said Alexandria Davis, Campbell's niece. "He was the nicest person on earth."
