MURFREESBORO, TN (FOX19/WSMV) -

Two Tri-State residents on their way to the Bonnaroo music festival were killed when a tractor-trailer overturned and crashed into multiple other vehicles, including another semi.

They have been identified as 28-year-old Brandon Wilson of Lawrenceburg, Ind., and a passenger, 25-year-old Deja Morris of West Harrison, Ind.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 12:19 a.m. on Thursday as cars were slowing due to heavy traffic from an earlier accident on Interstate 24 in Rutherford County. Truck driver Stacey Colvin was unable to stop in time and overturned, hitting eight other vehicles.

Two of the vehicles became trapped under the two tractor-trailers and burst into flames, trapping people inside their vehicles. Deputies tell Nashville's WSMV first responders at the scene were able to pull two people out of one car, but couldn't get to the others in time.

"They got their fire extinguishers out. The trooper and the sheriff's deputy were able to get that fire put out and rescue those two victims," said Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold.

Five others from Cincinnati and Kentucky were injured. Seven people, including the truck driver, were uninjured.

Colvin, of Campbellsville, Ky., was cited for failure to exercise due care. Authorities say additional charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
