Cincinnati City Councilman Christopher Smitherman is temporarily stepping down from his position as president of the Cincinnati NAACP.
Smitherman made the announcement Friday and says he's doing
it so he can run for re-election on Cincinnati City Council this November. He previously made the same move in 2011.
Smitherman says he's following protocol of what the national
office requires when running for public office, in an effort to prevent any
conflicts during the campaign.
