SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS) -

A woman survived an electric shock when she rescued a cat from flood waters in a basement Monday in Scott City.

The flash flooding in Scott City not only damaged cars, but entered buildings as well. Water entered the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home and soaked some of the carpet, according to Scott Amick.

Across the street, 2.5 feet of water flooded a basement of an apartment building.

The owner of the apartment says a woman went down to the basement and saw a cat swimming in the waters. She rescued the cat and placed it on a bed that was floating in the middle of the room. To prevent damage, the woman unplugged some cords from the outlets under water. She was shocked from the electric current, but managed to climb on the bed with the cat where she was later found by the owner.

The woman was checked out at a local hospital and is OK.
