Woman beaten unconscious in Cottonwood home invasion

COTTONWOOD, AZ (CBS5) -

A Cottonwood woman is recovering from head injuries after she was beaten unconscious in a home invasion on Friday.

The woman eventually regained consciousness, crawled next door and contacted a neighbor who called 911.

Police said the 25-year-old victim answered the door at around 10:30 p.m., and a hooded and masked man entered the home. He struck her over the head with a metal bat or pipe, according to Yavapai County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn.

The woman was on the phone at the time of the attack, and the person she was talking to heard screams and called authorities.

The attacker escaped. He is described as between 5'3" and 5'4" tall, and weighing 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.

The victim was taken to the Verde Valley Medical Center. She was treated and has since been released.

Detectives are working leads and need the public's help. Anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle or persons in the area of Village Drive and Western Drive in Verde Villages at around 10 p.m. on Friday, June 21, call YCSO. Callers should ask for Detective Todd Swaim at 928-567-7710 or Yavapai Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232. Refer to case number 13-020623.
