HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton fire crews battled a house fire on Thursday morning on Orchard Drive.
It happened at around 4:15 a.m.
Initial units on scene reported heavy smoke from the rear of the home. The property owners had evacuated the structure safely along with their three dogs. One cat was rescued by firefighters during the blaze.
The man of the house said he went to bed that evening with an electric blanket on his bed. The smoke detector woke him up and his comforter was on fire, he called to his wife and burnt his fingertips trying to pull the comforter off the bed. He and his wife then fled the residence.
Hamilton fire crews confined the fire to the bedroom and roof structure above, but the rest of the home and contents are ruined with smoke and heat damage.
Damage is estimated at $100,000 dollars, no firefighters were injured, and crews were on scene for about three hours. The home owner was checked by paramedics, but refused transport to the hospital.
