CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The Board of Library Trustees for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County approved a resolution Thursday to put an operating levy renewal on the ballot this November.
The renewal is for the library's existing 1-mill levy for a period of 10 years.
Library officials say as a renewal, it does not increase taxes, and the 10-year term would provide more stability in needed funding.
The levy costs taxpayers about $2.55 per month for each $100,000 of property value.
In a release sent Thursday, trustees say the resolution specifies that the levy is necessary to provide an adequate amount of operating expenses and capital improvements through 2024.
In addition, levy funding provides one-third of the total budget and is 'crucial to keeping the Library's services available', including the purchase of new books, music and movies, services for children and teens and computers with Internet access.
The 1-mill levy provides approximately $17.5 million per year in funding, serving as its only local support.
