COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) -

Governor John Kasich signed a new state budget for FY2014-15 that will cut taxes by $2.7 billion and create $1.5 billion funds for education on Sunday evening in Columbus, OH.

The new budget will attempt to improve and resolve issues in Ohio's highway system, college graduation rates, and Medicaid fraud and costs.

According to Kasich, the plan has earned praise from low-income advocates, senior groups, business leaders and some of the nation's leading economist.

"This budget is about opportunity, and tonight, Ohio's future looks brighter because of it," said Gov. Kasich.

In addition to the new budget, Gov. Kasich also made 22-item vetoes in H.B. 59.

Some of the vetoes include fewer restrictions on abortions, no sales tax collection on Internet sales, and not exempting teachers that teach primarily disabled students in poor performing schools from re-taking tests administered by the Ohio Department of Education.

Following Governor John Kasich's signing of a state budget, Ohio Democratic Chairman Chris Redfern displayed opposition to the budget.

"And with the stroke of a pen, Kasich launched an all-out assault on women's health care, defunding Planned Parenthood and putting at risk the life-saving, critical health care they provide, including cancer screenings, HIV tests, and even birth control," said Chairman Redfern.

Redfern also accused Gov. Kasich of being a "hypocrite" and an "ineffective leader" through Medicaid changes and providing hand-outs to the wealthy while raising taxes on the middle-class through the provisions of the budget.

In addition, State Representative Connie Pillich joined protestors Monday to talk about why the think the budget is against women.

"Women who come to Planned Parenthood aren't making a political statement. They are just coming for critical preventive healthcare, like breast exams, pap tests and birth control," said Connie Pillich regarding the defunding of Planned Parenthood.
