Firework set off inside car wash blamed for fire

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

A firework started a fire at a Clackamas County car wash.

Firefighters were called to the Shell Gas Station, 10725 SE 82nd Ave., at 10 p.m. Monday. Crews saw heavy black smoke and upgraded it to a second alarm due to a gas station being involved.

The fire burned in a detached car wash facility. Two workers suffered minor injuries after falling to the ground, but they declined medical transport or treatment at the scene.

Investigators said Wednesday the fire was caused by a firework that was either thrown or placed inside the car wash. It's not known if it was an illegal firework.

The investigation remains open and Clackamas Fire District No. 1 is working with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

If you know anything about this case, call 503-742-2660.

A damage estimate is not yet available.
