(RNN) - Nineteen firefighters were killed while battling a wildfire in Arizona.

The firefighters died of burns and smoke inhalation. The Yarnell Hill Fire is believed to have been started by lightning and has burned more than 8,000 acres.

In Egypt, military leaders ousted President Mohammed Morsi and placed him under house arrest. The military also arrested leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood who supported Morsi. The ousted president is accused of authoritarianism and failing to keep order.

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest was held on the Fourth of July. Both male and female returning champions defended their titles.
