Rain doesn't stop some from stocking up on fireworks

(FOX19) - The 4th of July and fireworks go hand-in-hand. Did you and your family run out and grab a few extra explosives to help celebrate the holiday even though most of Thursday was wet and rainy?

Some area businesses say the weather actually had an impact on their sales.

For Rozzi Fireworks, last year's dry weather around the holiday cut into their sales and kept people out of stores. By the time some rain came around, it was too late.

"It did slow people down, but then it rained a little bit right before the fourth, and so we had a big influx of people at the last minute.  But, at that point, it's a little hard to catch up," said Nancy Rozzi, president of Rozzi Incorporated.

As far as the whole fireworks industry goes, one store owner says things aren't flourishing, but perhaps the day of the week is partially to blame.

"This year it's not quite as busy within the industry itself, but we're doing fine.  I think it's because it's in the middle of the week," said Vicki Swarnkar, owner of 1/2 Price Fireworks in Lawrenceburg.

However, around the area, the rain actually brought people out.  More people were out and about this year getting their hands on last-minute fireworks thanks to the holiday rainfall.

"We've had a lot of people coming in.  Even the rain has brought them in, and our sales are actually up over last year," added Rozzi.

Things weren't much different right over the state line in Indiana.  This year's rain is a welcomed gift for some looking to celebrate America's independence.

"It's made a difference as more people feel more comfortable putting their fireworks off this year because of more rain," Swarnkar told FOX19.
