World Piano Competition kicks off in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Top performers from around the globe are gathering in Cincinnati for an annual classical piano competition.

The World Piano Competition kicks off Monday for the event's 57th season. The event has drawn the worlds' best pianists from around the world to the Cincinnati area since 1956.

The talented and young artists proceed through a series of auditions to The World Piano Competition to compete for over $65,000 in prize money. The Gold Medal winner in the Artist Division is awarded a debut recital at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall in New York and numerous performance opportunities worldwide.

The first round of the competition kicks off Monday. The competition continues throughout the week leading up to the finals on Saturday. The finals will be held in Corbett Auditorium at the University of Cincinnati at 7:00 p.m.

This year's competition is partnered with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the University of Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music.

The finalists of the competition will have the honor of performing with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
