MILTON, KY (WAVE) – A man kayaking on the Ohio River had to be rescued by workers taking part in the Milton-Madison Bridge project.

According to a press release, Bruce Cornelius, a crew boat operator for Walsh Construction Company, saw the kayak flip over around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Because of the river levels and a swift current, Cornelius realized the kayaker was in trouble.

Using the crew boat, Cornelius reached the man and bring him aboard. The kayaker, who was identified only as "Steve," was not wearing a life vest. The kayaker did not appear to be injured, but Cornelius said he was vomiting water and was visibly shaken.

The kayak and other his belongings were brought to shore by another Walsh worker, Hank Skipper, a tow boat operator.

The kayaker did not require medical attention, but said if Cornelius han't been there he "would not have made it."
