Police cracking down on crime in Kennedy Heights

KENNEDY HEIGHTS, OH (FOX19) -

It's been about one month since two people were gunned down in Kennedy Heights

Their cases are still unsolved, but police say they are working hard on tracking down suspects and cracking down on crime in the area.

A day at the park in Kennedy Heights is not what it used to be. Now instead of a place to play, many are simply afraid.

Kennedy Heights resident Tracy Reed says, "I'm just tired of the violence. I want it to stop. Put the guns down, and let's get along."

Last month, 20-year-old Dominique Hall was shot and killed at Kennedy Park. Nearby, 52-year-old Christopher Burroughs was shot to death just weeks later.

"He helped me with landscaping. he was a good guy," said Kennedy Heights resident Charles Davie.

Davie says it's crimes like these that hurt the community, "It's really sad, that's why we rallied together."

Cincinnati Police say they are continuing to work hard to combat violence in the neighborhood by keeping a heavy police presence in the area.  A move some residents say makes them feel safer and brings back the community to what it once was.

"Kennedy heights, Silverton, all around here, there's good people here, retired, and they want their neighborhood to stay peaceful, and we need the presence of police officers," said Davie.

Cincinnati police held a town meeting Tuesday evening in Kennedy Heights and let residents know they will continue surveillance of the neighborhood to prevent violence. They also say it's important for residents to report if they see any crime happening.

The next town meeting in Kennedy Heights is scheduled for August 20.
