Butter carvers working in secrecy for Ohio State Fair

COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) - While Ohioans are trying to beat the heat, some unique artists are enjoying their jobs inside a 46 degree cooler. The carving of the American Dairy Association Mideast's iconic butter cow is underway now so that the cow and the surprise butter sculpture will be ready for the Ohio State Fair.

The carving is done in complete secrecy every year, so the attached photo is the only image anyone will see of the sculpting until the butter display is unveiled on July 23. No one besides the artists is allowed inside and certainly no cameras so that the top secret theme isn't discovered.

Each year the American Dairy Association Mideast selects and icon or theme to feature in butter that is non-political and reflects optimism and broad audience appeal.

In 2012 the butter cow, wearing a party hat, was joined by a giant cake, celebrating the 200th birthday of the state capital.

The Ohio State Fair runs from July 24 until August 4 at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus.
