Perrysburg residents upset about park usage

PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

People living next to Rivercrest in Perrysburg say their kids can't play ball at a city park they're paying taxes for.

Now, a possible addition to the park could make it even harder for neighborhood children to play.

Only one of the four baseball diamonds at the park has lights, but that could soon change. Some neighbors say installing more lights at other diamonds would mean more noise, later games, and a more adult crowd. But that's not even their biggest concern.

"I'm paying for these fields and parks, but we're not allowed to use them," said Kathy Smith.

According to Smith, the fields are rented out to various leagues, making it hard for the public to play a pick-up game.

"I've got people across the street from me who have to play on their side yard. Our cars are on the street, they're getting hit with balls," she said.

Smith says lighting more fields means it will be even harder to find a time to play.

"It was just very aggravating to me that I have to call someone to use a field, and an adult has to be there, apparently, with the kids. I find that a little ridiculous."

Perrysburg city officials could not be reached for comment.
