SOMERSET, KY (FOX19) -
The Pulaski County, Ky. Sheriff's Office has arrested a Cincinnati man on charges of abusing a child.
On July 19 at around 11 p.m., the Sheriff's Office was called to respond to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital where a 2-year-old child was being treated for injuries to the head and body.
Responding deputies found the child had apparently been abused while camping with family at the Pulaski County Park.
In an investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division, detectives learned that several members of this family were having a family reunion at the park. Detectives interviewed several of the family and learned that the child was being cared for by the child's mother's boyfriend. During that time, witnesses told investigators they observed him carry the child into a tent where they then heard several slaps and strikes. When the child emerged from the tent, the witnesses observed injuries to the child's face.
Injuries to the child include substantial bruising and redness about the head and face and on the child's buttocks. He was treated and released from the hospital and was placed in the care of family members.
The suspect has been identified as Joel Konrad, 28. He has been charged with criminal abuse 1st degree – a class C Felony. Konrad was also charged with alcohol intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
The investigation is continuing by the sheriff's office Criminal Investigation Division.
