OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - A new boxing facility at the Over the Rhine Recreation Center will be unveiled on Tuesday.
An indoor pool at the recreation center has sat empty for the last couple of years due to major leaks and other maintenance issues. The center says that repairs or replacements would not have been cost effective.
A decision was made to fill in the pool and turn the vacant space into a facility that will house the Cincinnati Golden Gloves for Youth and Cincinnati Police Athletic Club.
The pool has already been filled in, but there are still waves painted on the walls. Renovations will include new paint, carpeting, a new boxing ring, a running track and concession stand.
Mayor Mark Mallory, Buddy LaRosa and Director of Recreation Chris Bingham will be on hand Tuesday to celebrate the groundbreaking of the facility. The ceremony will be held in the 1700 block of Republic Street at 11:00 a.m.
Completion is set for late August or early September.
