CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The family of Richard Campbell is filing a lawsuit against the Hilton Netherland Plaza hotel and its operator.
Campbell, a security guard at the hotel, was murdered in December by Joseph Tucker.
Tucker pleaded guilty last month to murder.
The lawsuit, filed by attorney Eric Deters, alleges that exit doors at the hotel were continually left unlocked, causing homeless people to regularly sleep in the stairwells.
On the morning of Dec. 7, 2012, Campbell arrived to begin his shift and found Tucker sleeping in a stairwell. When Campbell told him to leave the premises, Tucker stabbed him to death. Tucker says he was drunk and high on drugs when the murder occurred.
The lawsuit claims that the hotel should have given Campbell a safe place of employment, and his death was a result of negligent actions.
