Wal-Mart shoplifter admits to gun, flees from authorities

FORT WRIGHT, KY (FOX19) - A man was arrested by police after fleeing a Fort Wright Wal-Mart for shoplifting on Sunday afternoon.

Wal-Mart security guards caught two men shoplifting around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday and took them to their office for questioning.

According to the security guards, 22-year-old William Bowman admitted to possessing a 40 caliber handgun and gave it to the guards.

After handing over his gun, Bowman tried to run from the room, biting one guard in the arm and punching the other guard in the face.

Guards say that Bowman ran out of the office and fled away in his vehicle. The vehicle was abandoned at Jet's Pizza, where Bowman continued to flee on foot.

The Fort Wright Police Department set up a perimeter around the area and captured Bowman in the woods between Highland Avenue and Reeves Drive about an hour after he abandoned his car.

Bowman is charged with 1st degree robbery.

Police say the other shoplifting suspect was not combative and was released after receiving a citation. The total value of the items involved was $42.00.
