Shoplifting suspect hits police cruiser at Northgate Mall

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -

Three men were arrested Monday after a head-on collision involving a police cruiser.

It happened at Northgate Mall in the Sears parking garage around 3 p.m.

According to officers on scene, Harold Chapman, 55, was suspected of shoplifting at the mall. When the officer tried to block him with the police cruiser, the Chapman reportedly struck the cruiser with his own vehicle.

Chapman was charged with theft and had his bond set at $5,000. 

Two other men were also arrested in the incident. Vernon Childs, 60, is charged with complicity and had his bond set at $1,000. Tony Ruffin, 53, is charged with criminal trespassing and had his bond set at $500.

The case will go to the Hamilton County Grand Jury on August 8.
