Big Brother Big Sister aims to raise $20k for kids on waiting list

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting an online auction from August 5 – 11 to raise funds for 140 children on the waiting list for a Big Brother or Sister in Butler County.

The group will collaborate with the Everything But the House auction house and hopes to raise $20,000 though an auction conducted entirely online. A preview of the items to be sold will be available to the public at the Big Brothers Big Sisters office on Saturday, August 10.

Tax-deductible items were donated to the group by patrons including:

  • Signed sports memorabilia
  • Gift certificates
  • Tickets to sporting events
  • Artwork
  • Art pottery
  • Mid-century modern items
  • Vintage women's clothing, purses or costume jewelry
  • Fine jewelry
  • Women's luxury goods including designer purses
  • Golf outings
  • Sporting goods
  • Vintage books author signed books, first edition books
  • Class or antique furniture

Big Brothers Big Sisters served more than 745 children in Butler County in 2012. Six-hundred and fifteen children between the ages of 6-18 were placed on a waiting list called the Club of Unmatched Littles (COUL).

All children demonstrated risk factors that could affect their personal growth including living below the poverty-line, a history of child abuse, an incarcerated parent, or single-parent homes.
