TIGHT END U: Spent a little time with Tyler Eifert in open media locker room this morning. We talked about his relationship with former teammate (and Elder grad) Kyle Rudolph. Eifert said they overlapped at Notre Dame for two seasons. Eifert didn't open up too much about their relationship, but did say ND is becoming "tight end U" with the recent influx of talent at that position (John Carlson, Anthony Fasano, Rudolph and Eifert all playing in the NFL). I still say without A.J. Green practicing, Eifert has been the best offensive player on the field for the Bengals at training camp.
DEPTH CHART: Bengals released their first depth chart of the preseason. A few interesting observations:
*Orson Charles, who switched from tight end, is listed as the starting fullback
*Mohamed Sanu is listed as the starting wide receiver opposite A.J. Green
*Josh Johnson is second string quarterback with John Skelton third
*Carlos Dunlap, who's only started two games in his NFL career, is the starting left DE
*George Iloka is listed as the starter at strong safety ahead of Taylor Mays
BYE, GEORGE: George Iloka spent an extended period of time with the media talking about his rise from 5th round pick a season ago to projected starter. Said he feels he was drafted too low and says the best players in the NFL are the ones who play with something to prove.
HAWK GROUNDED: Andrew Hawkins did not appear until after the open media time had ended. He was on crutches with a boot on his injured ankle and said he didn't have time to stop and talk. His brother, Artrell, tweeted Thursday night it's likely a high ankle sprain for the Bengals slot receiver. Will mean more work for former Buckeye Dane Sanzenbacher. He's had a solid camp so far.
PRACTICE AT 3PM: More thoughts after practice...
