Motorcycle passenger thrown after near miss with SUV

RIPLEY COUNTY, IN (FOX19) - A motorcycle passenger was seriously injured after a near miss involving the motorcycle and an SUV.

It happened Friday around 1:30 p.m. on S.R. 101, north of E. County Road 100 S.

According to Indiana State Police, a 2004 Assembled Chopper motorcycle driven by 44-year-old John Mushong of Milan was headed northbound on S.R. 101. An SUV driven by 31-year-old Dustin Baylor of Milan, headed southbound, made a left turn to pull into a private drive in front of the motorcycle.

Mushong swerved to avoid a collision and his wife, 49-year-old Joan Mushong who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was thrown off.

Neither of the Mushong's were wearing a helmet. Joan suffered serious head trauma and numerous cuts and abrasions. She was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Following the near miss, John Mushong was able to maintain control of his motorcycle and neither vehicle suffered any damage.

The crash remains under investigation and no citations were issued or charges filed.
