Green, Hawkins, Whitworth out for Bengals' preseason opener

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

As the Bengals depart for Atlanta, they will be leaving three key players behind.

Marvin Lewis is taking his team to Atlanta to work with the Falcons ahead of their preseason opener in the Georgia Dome on Thursday. The team will practice in Atlanta in the days leading to Thursday's preseason opener.

A.J Green will be staying behind in Cincinnati. Green bruised his knee in practice last week and has not returned to the field. Coach Marvin Lewis has stated that Green will "begin his on-field training this week."

The Bengals are also without Andrew Whitworth who is giving his knee more time to strengthen following an offseason surgery in February.

Andrew Hawkins will also remain in Cincinnati with an injured ankle.
