Police are searching for a man who fled a car accident in College Hill early Sunday morning.
The accident happened at the GPX Gas & Phone Exchange located in the 6000 block of Hamilton Avenue before employees came into work.
A surveillance video shows that the car hit a curb and did a full flip while crashing through a small curbside tree. The vehicle came to rest with its rear wheels suspended in the air with the back bumper rested on a sidewalk bench.
E. Redd with GPX Gas & Phone Exchange, said the impact was not something that he had ever seen.
took out three pylons. He took out a public telephone that we had there
on the corner, and landed on the strongest city bench that I've ever seen," said Redd.
Redd says that the city bench is usually occupied by at least one person throughout the day.
is a pretty busy bus stop, and there's usually, almost all day long, someone
sitting right there on that bench. So, good thing no one was there
waiting for the bus," said Redd.
Police are currently searching for the driver, who exited the vehicle seemingly unharmed, and attempted to hail a taxi cab.
"Definitely not your normal
Sunday morning. We really hope that the guy driving the car is alright,"
Police say that the driver abandoned the vehicle, a rental car, at the scene.
