Sammy's customers stunned. The restaurant that's been around for more than 30 years is closing its doors. The announcement posted on the company's website.
A source tells 19 Action News employees were told on Monday they were out of a job but no reason for the closing was given.
"It's our anniversary we want to go to Sammy's," said Yolanda Morris.
Yolanda Morris and her husband Richard were celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary Monday and wanted to dine at the restaurant for the first time.
"I'm disappointed," said Yolanda Morris.
"I feel like Cleveland is taking a back seat to a lot of things that we shouldn't be taking a back seat to," said Richard Morris.
The restaurant which has several locations including the recently opened restaurant in Playhouse Square also books weddings and caters big events.
When 19 Action News called the restaurant someone with an answering service picked up, saying no one told them about the closing, but, several worried brides had called to find out what's going on.
Neil Bhagat says his company was supposed to have an event at Sammy's next month but now they have to figure out where they'll go.
"Hopefully there's another facility around here that can accommodate us in short notice. You hate to see something like that happen in the Warehouse District. Things have been going pretty well, but, I guess that's how it goes here," says Neil Bhagat.
According to Sammy's website, the company is in negotiations with a local caterer to transition current clients.
