I'm not in Atlanta for the Bengals practices this week with the Falcons, but have a few observations from the video sent to us from our colleagues at the FOX-TV station in Atlanta:
- Seems the practices are most beneficial for the skill position players. The hitting is limited, but the route running and defending is full speed.
- It's really good work for the Bengals wide receivers. Without A.J. Green and Andrew Hawkins on the trip, some of the lesser used players and rookies are getting more reps. That's big for the coaches to see what they have in those playes.
- The combined practices might be most important for the Bengals defensive backs. Getting a chance to compete with Pro Bowl caliber pass catchers in Roddy White and Julio Jones is invaluable.
A thought from Michael Johnson sent our way from our friends at the FOX-TV in Atlanta:
Michael Johnson: "It's fun to see how people do stuff in other places and get to switch up the scenery a little bit. It's fun. Practice went fast, it seemed like."
A lot of guys are using the word "fun" to describe this week of combined practices with the Falcons. The two teams will practice together again on Tuesday. First preseason game for both teams is Thursday at the Georgia Dome.
