Education Poll

Poll finds education top issue among Ohioans

A poll to be released today puts education as the top issue in Ohio. The poll by the Cincinnati-based Knowledge-Works says the majority of those questioned think that funding for schools is inadequate. The poll of 800 Ohioans in June found most Ohioans think the state should spare education from budget cuts.

Ohioans generally give the state's public school system a C grade and nearly half say the system needs a major overhaul. Most also say closing the achievement gap between white students and black and Latino students is important. The poll comes not long before a task force appointed by Governor Taft completes its recommendations on how to change the state's school-funding system. The group is looking for ways to provide more stable revenues for schools.
