CINCINNATI (AP) - A university in Ohio will hold its first August commencement ceremony since stopping the practice 34 years ago.
The University of Cincinnati says the end-of-summer ceremony on Saturday marks the graduation of more than 2,000 students.
The school says adding the end-of-summer commencement will provide students with more timely graduation ceremonies. University officials say they are reviving the August commencement after several years of higher enrollment and student retention.
A university release says first- to second-year retention rates have increased from 77% to 86% over the last 10 years with graduation rates increasing nearly 15% in that time.
Enrollment increased more than 27% between 2002 and 2012.
End-of-summer commencement ceremonies were previously held at UC from at least the early 1960s to 1979.
