COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - More than 900 backpacks loaded with school supplies were given to children in need on Saturday.
School children from low-income families were given a free backpack and supplies as part of the 13th annual Backpacks and Breakfast event put on by Northern Kentucky Harvest.
The event kicked off at 9:00 a.m. and continued through 11:00 a.m. in Goebel Park located at Fifth and Philadelphia Streets in Covington's MainStrasse.
The event included a free breakfast served in the park from Frisch's Restaurant and plenty of fun and entertainment for children.
Backpacks and Breakfast is open to qualified families in Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties. The clear plastic backpacks filled with new school supplies were given away on a first come, first serve basis to low income families.
Parents were asked to bring photo identification of themselves and social security or medical cards for their children and a recent piece of mail with their name and address on it.
