Man accused of killing toddler to appear in court

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The trial is expected to begin on Monday for a man accused of killing a Colerain Township toddler.

Daniel Hamberg, 28, is charged with killing 13-month-old Cohen Barber.

According to Colerain Township police, officers were called to a house on the 2800 block of John Gray Road on February 1. When they arrived at the scene, Daniel Hamberg, 28, told officers that 13-month-old Cohen Barber had tried to jump from the top of five stairs and into his arms. Hamberg told officers that he was unable to catch Cohen, who then landed on the ground and hit his head.

Cohen was then transported to Children's Hospital, where doctors discovered that he had a fracture at the base of his skull and a brain hemorrhage. He later died of his injuries.

Police say Hamberg's story doesn't add up. A Hamilton County Grand Jury indicted Hamberg on one count of Aggravated Murder, one count of Murder, one count of Felonious Assault, and one count of endangering children.

Hamberg's bond was set at $1 million.
