Covington heads back to school Wednesday

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) - Covington teachers headed back to school on Monday in preparation for the upcoming school year.

Opening day was held for teachers and staff. The district's newly appointed superintendent, Alvin Garrison, shared his hopes for Covington schools.

"We have to have a vision for our school system. We have to believe our kids can do it. If you believe, they will achieve. I guarantee it," said Garrison.

Garrison was voted for unanimously by the Covington Board of Education back in May. The board voted 5-0 to give Garrison a four year contract with a salary of $129,000.

Prior to Covington, he served as principal of John Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.

Covington Independent Public Schools are back in session on Wednesday.
