SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Police have identified a man who was killed after being tased by a deputy in Sycamore Township.
Hamilton Co. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 10000 block of Barrington Court in Sycamore Township following reports of a neighborhood disturbance just before 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.
Upon arrival, officers say they found 59-year-old Gary Roell partially clothed in the rear of a neighbor's residence. Police say Roell had broken out the rear window on his neighbor's townhouse.
According to the report, Roell rushed toward the deputies with a flower pot in one hand and a hose in the other.
Officers say they backed away and asked him several times to come calmly.
Deputies say that Roell was ordered to the ground. It was at this time that Roell charged the officers. Three officers attempted to restrain Roell prior to the tasing. One deputy was punched in the face in the process.
Officers say Roell was shot in the lower backside with the Taser.
Moments after the police used the Taser, deputies checked on the suspect's well-being and noticed he was having difficulty breathing.
Police say Roell stopped breathing while EMS was responding. Deputies performed CPR until emergency vehicles arrived.
Roell was transported to Bethesda North Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The incident remains under investigation.
