CVS changes policy requiring ID for nail polish remover - Cincinnati News, Weather, Sports from FOX19 NOW-WXIX

UPDATE: CVS changes nail polish remover policy

(FOX19) -

CVS will no longer require customers to show identification in most states when buying nail polish remover.

The store previously implemented the policy requiring branches to card customers because the product contains acetone, an ingredient used to make meth.

It's also in many other household items such as cleaning material and shoe polish.

CVS will now only require ID for the purchase of acetone products in Hawaii, and the purchase of iodine products in California, Hawaii and West Virginia, in order to comply with certain state regulations.

FOX19 spoke with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, and they say acetone is not an ingredient widely found in some of the meth labs that they bust.

In recent years, federal laws have been put in place on the way cold and allergy medicine is sold for containing Pseudophedrine, another key ingredient to make meth.
