SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

A 13-year-old girl is charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in connection with house fire on July 14 that resulted in the deaths of two children.

The blaze erupted just after 2 p.m. July 14 at a home on East DeRenne Drive and engulfed the back of the house.

Savannah firefighters rescued a 6 year old and a 13 year old from a bedroom. They were in critical condition at the pediatric intensive care unit at Memorial University Medical Center and died four days later.

The 13-year-old girl was charged Wednesday two counts of involuntary manslaughter and a one count of first-degree arson, according to Savannah Fire & Emergency Services investigators.

She was arrested at the Chatham County Youth Detention Center, where she remains in custody awaiting an initial detention hearing.

"I can't imagine. Until the words come out of that child's mouth, I just can't make myself believe she did that. ... I am stunned, absolutely stunned," said neighbor Stanley Rosenberg.

Veteran newsman Lyndy Brannen said it was a sight he had never seen in all his years in covering Savannah news.

Brannen was one if the first people at the scene. He saw the heavy smoke and saw the 13 year old girl come out if the house come in smoke and soot.
