Red Cross offers disaster preparedness tips at fair

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Not sure what to do during a disaster? The American Red Cross will have you covered.

The Cincinnati Area Chapter of the American Red Cross is collaborating with the Hamilton County EMA during to launch the "5 to Get Ready" campaign at the Disaster Preparedness Fair on Saturday, August 24.

The fair highlights National Preparedness Month, which is recognized every August. Families will learn how to create disaster kits and tips on being prepared for different disasters.

More than 30 agencies will be in attendance to show their individualized response during and after a disaster, including the Cincinnati Fire Department. Coordinators hope that families will recognize and adopt methods that can help during a time of disaster.

"Disasters can strike at any time and making sure all household members know what to do in an emergency is a family's best defense," said Trish Smitson, CEO of the Greater Cincinnati-Dayton Region. "Our goal is to help families be self-reliant by helping them make a plan and build a disaster kit."

The Disaster Preparedness Fair will be from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at 2111 Dana Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45207 on Saturday, August 24. For more information about the Disaster Fair or the 5 to Get Ready Campaign visit redcross.org/Cincinnati.
