LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A man and woman were arrested Wednesday after they allegedly stole a car from a Walmart parking lot.

According to the Longview Police Department, 25-year-old Jimmy Ray Gibson, of Gilmer, and 25-year-old Stephanie Stewart, of Longview, were taken into custody just after 3 p.m.

Officers responded to the report of a vehicle burglary at Walmart on Gilmer Road. Upon arrival, a female victim told police that a window in her Lincoln Town Car had been smashed and her purse had been taken out of the front seat. A witness stated that a white male broke the car window out with a hammer, stole a purse, and then drove away in the vehicle.

Police located the stolen vehicle, along with two suspects, at a gas station just feet from where the car was taken from.  When officers spotted Gibson he was trying to use the victim's credit card to purchase gas. The victim's purse and the hammer used to break the car window were located inside the car.

Both were arrested for burglary of a vehicle and Gibson will also face one charge of credit card abuse. They were taken to Gregg County Jail without incident.

Gibson has nine previous theft charges and Stewart has two previous charges of theft and forgery.
