A Springfield Township father escaped injury Friday afternoon after one of three teenaged burglary suspects took a shot at him.
Police say that officers were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to a home on Kemper Road near Mill Road burglary in progress. A 16-year-old girl was home alone, heard noises coming from the basement and contacted her parents and 911.
Her father, the homeowner, returned home and saw three teenage suspects exiting his basement door and chased them. As the father pursued, one of the teenagers turned and fired a single shot at him that missed. The suspect then fled and the father discontinued the chase.
As officers arrived on scene, they developed information that took them to a house on Hazelgrove Drive, just blocks from the victims' home, where all three teens were found and arrested. Police later from their investigation that one of the suspects had broken into the house the day prior and had stolen a handgun and a key to the house. Both the handgun and key were located at the home on Hazelgrove.
