CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A new adoption center for cats will be opened on Sunday from a $1.6 million dollar gift from the Joanie Bernard Foundation, Inc.

The Ohio Alleycat Resource & Spay/Neuter Clinic will celebrate its Grand Opening on Sunday, August 18, 12:00-5:00 p.m. in Madisonville (5619 Orlando Place, 45227).

FOX19's Katy Morgan will be among a few of the speakers that will help celebrate the occasion.

The Joanie Bernard Home for Cats nearly doubles the organization's current adoption space, with approximately 4,800 square feet of cat housing and supporting work areas. It was designed to serve as a welcoming place to visit and adopt cats: cats will reside in community rooms, each having custom-built play equipment, and screened-in porches for mild weather. Housing will also be dedicated for special-needs cats - those that are elderly, or have a medical condition. The shelter's Kitten Room is anticipated to be a favorite stop for visitors.

Ohio Alleycat Resource finds homes for approximately 300 cats annually, and the organization anticipates a significant increase in that number as a result of the new facility.

For more information regarding adopting a cat or volunteering, visit the organization's web site at www.ohioalleycat.org or contact Ohio Alleycat Resource at (513) 871-7297 or info@ohioalleycat.org.
