Police say they believe that alcohol is a factor in a Hamilton accident that has left one person critically injured.
Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Hampshire Drive on Sunday morning around 1:50 a.m.
Upon arrival, officers determined that two vehicles had collided.
Investigation revealed that Ana Laura Ramirez, 24, was driving a black Camaro northbound on Hampshire Drive when the incident occurred. Police say that Ramirez was attempting to pass a Ford Mustang driven by 21-year-old Julio Contretas Rodriguez.
Officers say that as Ramirez cut in front of Rodriguez, her vehicle clipped the front of Rodriquez's vehicle causing Ramirez to lose control, go left of center, and strike the guardrail and tree. Police say that Ramirez was unconscious with visible head and facial injuries when they arrived on the scene.
Ramirez was transported to University Hospital West Chester by Hamilton Fire Department paramedics. She was then transferred to University Hospital Medical Center by University Air Care. Ramirez is currently being cared for in the Intensive Care Unit.
Rodriguez's vehicle struck a tree as well. However, the driver did not appear to have any injuries.
Rodriquez was arrested following the accident. He faces charges in the Hamilton Municipal Court for tampering with evidence and operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license.
Authorities say that Ramirez, if she recovers, will face charges yet to be determined.
Police say that alcohol is a contributing factor in the accident.
