HIGHLAND COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward is offering a reward of $7,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspect involved in the shooting at a Highland County Sheriff's Deputy on Monday August 20, 2013 near the Pike County/Highland County line.
It started when a Highland County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to conduct a routine traffic stop in Bushcreek township on S.R. 41 around 3:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Officers say the driver of the car wouldn't stop, so a low speed chase began.
Officers say a deputy pursued the suspect's car into Pike County. Once inside Pike County, the deputy says the driver stopped in the middle of the road and his passenger fired a shotgun at the deputy, hitting his cruiser.
The sheriff's office says the chase continued until the driver stopped again, this time on Fairview Road, and tried to back into the deputy's cruiser. The deputy fired multiple shots but the suspects were able to get away.
The deputy was not hurt during the shootout. Authorities do not believe either suspect was shot in the process.
Authorities are searching for a silver or gray Dodge, possibly a Dodge Stratus, in relation to the incident. Police believe there is a temporary Ky. license plate taped to the back window.
The sheriff says they've received some tips since they first began offering a reward last week. Those tips have generated several persons of interest in the case. The office says they are working with other law enforcement agencies and BMVs in multiple states to track down those leads.
