Motorcyclist dead following Mt. Airy accident

MT. AIRY, OH (FOX19) -

A 30-year-old man is dead following a Monday morning motorcycle accident in Mt. Airy.

Police say the accident happened just after 10:00 a.m. in the 5600 block of Colerain Avenue.

Officers say that Andre Artis, 30, was driving his Honda motorcycle northbound on Colerain Avenue when he was struck by a 2005 Suzuki Forenza driven by 69-year-old Bennie Middlebrooks.

Authorities say that Middlebrooks was traveling southbound on Colerain Avenue turning eastbound on Goldenrod Drive.

Artis was transported to UC Medical Center. Police announced Tuesday morning that Artis passed away from the injuries sustained in the crash.

Middlebrooks was not injured in the crash.

Officers say Artis was not wearing a helmet. Police say neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors.

The crash is still under investigation.
