CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A city of Cincinnati employee died on the job Tuesday morning while driving on Reading Road, police say.

Tyrone Smith, 57, a parking enforcement officer with the city, was killed in a crash in the 4600 block of Reading Road in the area of Bond Hill.

According to police, Smith was headed southbound on Reading Road around 11 a.m. He suffered a medical condition and lost control of the vehicle, hitting a Toyota Avalon driven by 46-year-old Youlanda Allen.

Police say after hitting Allen's car, Smith's Dodge Stratus hit the curb, left the right side of the roadway and struck a concrete base before coming to a stop.

Allen was wearing a seatbelt at the time and was not injured.

Smith was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where police say he succumbed to his medical condition.

He was a 26-year veteran of the city.

Cincinnati City Manager Milton Dohoney, Jr. released this statement on Smith's passing, "I am sad to say that we lost a member of the City family today.  Mr. Tyrone Smith, a 26-year dedicated member of the City organization, died today while on duty.  He was one of those employees who always stayed positive and even showed up to work a half hour early every day. But he was more than a public employee; he was a father, a brother and a friend.  On behalf of the entire City government, I send my deepest sympathies to them all.

Police say speed and alcohol are not factors in the crash. Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the Cincinnati Police Department's Traffic Unit at (513) 352-2514.
