One man has died and two people have been injured by a ride that came apart at a church fair in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Witnesses say they saw one of the men being thrown from the ride and crashing to the ground yesterday afternoon at the Saint Mary's Family Festival. A spokesman for the state Department of Mental Retardation says the victims were residents of the Glavin Center in Shrewsbury, a facility for the mentally retarded. The spinning-type carnival ride has three arms -- with each holding four two-seat cars. One of the cars appeared visibly damaged and pieces of wreckage of the same color could be seen on the ground. All three victims were taken to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester where one died. Authorities are investigating.
